Water is essential to your body's health and weight loss. It is also necessary to cleansing your body and removing "addictions" to other sweetened drinks (we all have our favorites). Our bodies are 60-70% water!
Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.
Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.
Let's put it into perspective:
The requirement is 8 (8oz) glasses of water. Just how much is that?
• 8 x 8oz is 64oz.
• 2 x 32oz (large) sodas* at a fast food* restaurant (a Macho Drink at Del Taco is 44oz! um...Del Taco...)
• 7 cans of soda* (12oz each)
• If you only drank water at each meal, that would be abt 21oz at each meal
• Keep in mind, this is during the entire day. This gives you 13 hours (if you were awake 8am-9pm) to drink it. That's only 4oz per hour (1/2 glass of water or 1/3 can of soda) that you have to drink.
If you break it down, it's not that much.
*DISCLAIMER: The words soda and fast food are for illustrative purposes only, and partaking of them is not suggested unless you wish to lose and forfeit your $$ to me.
A few suggestions:
• Fill up a 2 liter bottle with water (full it's 67oz). Drink this throughout the day, filling up glasses to drink in smaller amounts. During the day, you can see how far you've come and much you have left.
• Drink more first thing in the morning or at night before bed. You may find that you are more thirsty at these times or right after you exercise.
• Measure the glasses you are using. It might surprise you how much water they hold. We measured the ones that Denise bought a while ago...30oz!! Just down that! 2 of those and your set for the day!
• They say if you drink a glass of water before a meal, you will eat less, which would be beneficial for all of us!

I have to agree with Dee and Denise. I haven't had any problem drinking water--probably because it has been so dang hot, so I'm always thristy. I suggest, not waiting until bedtime to finish up your 8 glasses, unless you like to pee all night. I just fill up my 32 oz water bottle at least 2 times a day and keep it on the kitchen counter or dining room table where I'm always walking by it. When I walk by, I take a drink. Plus I keep cups in my bathroom and will get a drink of H2O after I wash my hands. Good luck.

yes jenn. the water thing is not an issue especially when i was at camp. woowee was it super hot. bleh. and like she said it doesnt have to be plain water. i also drank vitamin water and sugar free lemonade. and of course being at camp made it easy to get my exersise. we went rappelling and a 15 mile hike! D= sure was tired after that. =) well i made a new chart that fits all the days into one with everything still on it. =) if you want it email me. or just say so.
I'm sad I just found your little family contest! I would've begged to be a part of it had I found it earlier- I need some incentive to lose a few pounds and get my exercise and eating back on track. Good luck to all of you! I'll check in to see how you are doing! Oh, and on the water thing...I've found it's easier to drink more water if it's at room temperature. It's not such a shock to your system and your able to guzzle it down rather than sip it. Honestly, drinking a lot of water is just a habit - if you keep it with you at all times and take a drink whenever you look at it - you'll find you are craving it before too long.
Drinking room temperature water may make it easier to drink more at one time, but drinking ice cold water causes your body to burn more calories! Your body has to work to warm up the water to body temperature.
okay this is Lela again. Last week I had a real hard time drinking that much water. this week I got 8 empty spools from out of my sewing cabnet. on one end I put a red sticker and on the other end I put a green one. I placed them on the window sill above my kitchen sink. in the morning I turned them all over to the red side, and placed a small 8 oz glass there too. each time I drank a glass full I turned over a spool. it made it easier to keep track and and I didn't have to look at a huge amount of water that I had to drink. anyway yesterday I made it but I still woke up with a head ach. I guess it is trying to flush out the toxins from my body and my head gets a good amount of it in the night.
